Johan Arriasis a composer and musician working in the fields of film music, experimental music, and sound art. He holds two Master’s degrees: an MFA in Music from the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg (2001), and a Master’s degree in Film Music Composition (2025) from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH) and Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH), with education divided equally between the two institutions and final examination at KMH.

As a film composer, he has written music for a feature-length documentary, several short films, a dance film, and an art film. His work often explores the border between composition and improvisation, music and sound design, drawing on his background in improvisation and sound art to create scores that are both sensitive to narrative and open to sonic experimentation.

As a musician, Arrias is active in the fields of improvised, experimental, and contemporary music. He works with deconstructing and fragmenting traditional instrumental playing through extended techniques and preparations, regarding sound as an autonomous matter. In composition, he moves freely between traditional notation, graphic scores, and conceptual frameworks.

He has collaborated with musicians such as Tisha Mukarji, Angharad Davies, Tetuzi Akiyama, Axel Dörner, Derek Shirley, Kai Fagaschinski, Lucio Capece, Audrey Chen, Anna Lindal, David Stackenäs, Christer Bothén, Nina de Heney, Jonatan Liljedahl, Lisa Ullén, Henrik Olsson, Emil Strandberg and many others. He has toured in Sweden, Norway, South Africa, the USA, Poland, the UK, Germany, and Romania, and released records on labels such as MonotypeRec, Headspin Recordings, Crazy Wisdom, Jahr Null Aufnahmen, and his own label Ausculto Fonogram. He is a member of Fylkingenand a former member of its production group. He has extensive experience as a concert organizer and has previously been a board member of FRIM (the Association of Free Improvised Music in Stockholm).
